Specification Activities

We have ongoing work on specifications in a number of different areas. Specification work if done within working groups. Working groups are required to maintain a current published version of a spec, a proposed new (unadopted) version of the spec, a list of issues which have been raised and need to be addressed. The issue list is open to the public for review. Issues may be submitted by the public to any working group on the new proposed version of a spec, but issues from active working group members will receive priority attention.

Interface 1: Process definition design, interchange, with the goal of enabling a process design ecosystem. Key standards: BPMN and XPDL

Interface 2: Notification of people of tasks to be done, representing those tasks, and collecting input as a result of those tasks. Key standard: WorkCast Protocol as well as normal web standards HTTP, HTML, XForms, and other ingredients for presenting information on the web and collecting response.

Interface 3: Invocation of services as part of a process. There is so much activity in the SOA space that WfMC does have any additional specific work in this area, but recognizes without prejudice all adopted standards in the SOAP and REST space.

Interface 4: Run time integration of process services. Key standard: Wf-XML running over either SOAP or REST.

Interface 5: Analytics and monitoring. Key standard: BPAF.

Service Activities

The specifications are supported with services of various forms to help assure the success of the standards specifications.

XPDL Validation Service: This is an on-line resource for checking XPDL file as being valid according to the specification and other rules.
